This week the pick is from our friends in the UK at Asos.com. If you’ve never shopped Asos then hurry up and take a peek at their site, as it will quickly become a favourite for UK fashion. Don’t forget to visit their outlet site which is where this week’s DOW comes from:

asos mina bow pleat dress $45

A bit “after-school Gossip Girl cocktail hour” but I like the lightness of the fabric for summer. If you’re not smitten with this dress as much as I am then check out the rest of their outlet site and I guarantee you’ll find something.

Who isn’t completely enamored by the style goddesses behind SATC the franchise and the SATC2 which boasts the largest and loudest display of designer outfits on screen ever?!  (Don’t worry I’ll let you know where to find this designer style for less online and ships to Canada!)

If you haven’t yet had the chance to see the sequel, which I highly recommend, be prepared to have a nagging urge to go out and flex your credit card muscles. After that the most complicated question you’ll have to answer is, “What should I wear?”

 Of course we don’t all have the luxury of having a walk-in-closet the size of Carrie Bradshaw’s, but we can copy her look for less:

Check out this already famous Halston Heritage swing dress  worn by Carrie seen all over the SATC2 movie promos:

This Halston dress retails for $325.00

If your looking for some inspiration pieces for spring at a more reasonable pricepoint (and available to Canadians ;) ) here’s some great alternatives that will make you feel just as SATC fabulous:

Items available at:

Collective Concepts Women’s Purple Single-shoulder Dress (Overstock.com)       $47.70

Elizabeth and James Vanessa Dress (Bluefly.com)   $228

We’ve seen this look before, but it just won’t march off into the sunset. Nope, the military look is here to stay. At least for Spring 2010 that is. (Scroll down for where to shop this look for less online – and ships to Canada!)

How do you pull of military without looking like an overdressed officer at the next spring BBQ? Pair it with floaty fabrics in light shades that are oh-so-spring and lighten the entire look making it very spring partywear appropriate, a la Aquilano.Rimondi (below).

Aquilano.Rimondi Spring 2010

As usual, I’ve scouted out where you can achieve this look for less without sacrificing style.

(All items are available to Canadian online shoppers)

Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2010 Mexican Fiesta

Jean Paul Gautier had this to say about his spring 2010 couture looks: “I saw the Avatar and, like everyone, found it extraordinary. And from there I began thinking of nature and ecology, and the Latin American tropics; and from there it was not very far to Mexico.”

While we don’t want to end up looking like the couture Mexica bird, we can find the inspiration available to Canadian online shoppers at the following retailers:

Another Shopping Supplement Online Shopping Destination Nutritional Review (All stores Ship their styles to Canada!). Here’s a quick recap of what a review entails:

- An online shopping retailer is picked & shopped
-I review the experience based on style, “shoppability”, customer service and if there are any steals to be had.
-Then you make up your mind about whether you want to shop the online store yourself (PS: The store must ship to Canada!)
This week I’ve decided to let  you in on my secret shopping destination: Victoria’s Secret.

…not quite a secret these days but I bet you didn’t know they have an impressive clothing and shoe collection in addition to lingerie, swimwear and cosmetics.

If an online shopping sale is what your after then make sure you use the Sale + Specials link which allows you to search clearance product, because you won’t get the same results if you browse by category. If your interested in saving an additional % off your order, sign up for their newsletters which will keep you in the know about special discounts and offers (just be warned they do sent emails at least once a week which can be overkill sometimes). The site carries exclusive merchandise not available in store and product from last season at deep discounts.

Shipping costs are reasonable: $13.99 including duty charges for purchases under $50 and $18.99 for purchases over $50 (to see the complete chart click here).

Here’s the final nutritional calculation:
  • Service: A+

               – I once found something I wanted to add to an existing order and emailed their customer service to add it for me. They replied the next day saying since the turn-around time for the order had lapsed they could not add it so they offered me free shipping on my next order. Not bad. I’ve never had any problems with any orders.

  • Steals: A

               – I’ve gotten some great bathing suits at VS for incredible prices, and didn’t have to sacrifice style. They constantly have promotions and have a fair amount in stock also.

  • Style: A

               – VS carries many designers other than their own line (ex. Jessica Simpson, Steve Madden, UGG brand, Kenneth Cole) which amps up their style credit.

  • Simple: B

               – I found it a bit annoying that the site doesn’t let you sort your search results and that you have to look around for a while to find exactly what you want, but the checkout system was fairly simplistic.

OVERALL NUTRITIONAL VALUE: A

Now I leave the decision up to you…to Shop or Not to Shop?

Hot off the runways from Versace, Rebecca Taylor (below), Vivienne Westwood and more, designers were loving the floral look on everything from headbands to heels to blazers and dresses (see below for where to buy the look for less & ships to Canada).

Rebecca Taylor Spring 2010

 You can shop spring florals for less of course. Check out these cute alternatives (available to Canadians!)

These looks are available for less at the following online retailers (in order of appearance above):

I love the floral look, but please, keep it to one or two pieces or you’ll end up looking like you stumbled out of a flower bed.

The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and my legs are screaming for sunlight. What better way to ring in the good weather than with a flowy spring dress. This season’s day styles are hippy inspired, flowery, embellished and easy to take from work to the beach. 2010’s evening wear is dramatic, glitsy, and will stop you in your tracks with its bold colours.  (see below for where to buy & all ship to Canada!)

Whether you have a spring wedding coming up or your legs are screaming to be let out and flaunt themselves in a flowy day dress, here are my favourites at all price points (and of course they ship to Canada):

I can get TWO for this price price-point ( < $50):

Where to Buy (in order as seen above)

I can still afford to buy a cute accessory to go with ( > $50)!

Where to Buy (in order as seen above)

There! Now you have no excuse to let out your gorgeous gams and go skip through the meadows with your picnic basket…or just look like you were about to!

Happy Shopping as always,

~Chelsea

It’s Friday again! Not only does that mean the start of a sunny spring weekend ahead, but more importantly DOW (deal of the week)! Here’s my fresh picking this week:
What helps to role in the summer better than shopping for swimsuits. Ok, not our favourite passtime…BUT when you can get a super cute design that flatters all the right areas (and hides the rest) AND when you get it for a great price it helps to make the experience more pleasurable.

I’ve ordered bathing suits online at Victoria’s Secret numerous times, and they really do have something for everyone. I couldn’t pick just one to show you so check out these amazing suits at even more amazing prices!

The following suits are under $10!

 Feel free to roam the site yourself and find one that flatters you most! (I found their sizing to be true to any other bathing suit manufacturer, and if you live near a VS maybe think about trying one on their first before you buy).
Happy Friday and DOW day!!
~Chelsea

PS: Of course VS ships to Canada!

I love the strappy sandals that the models strutted down the runway wearing at the Spring 2010 BCBG Max Azria show (see below for where to shop online that ships to Canada!) There so versatile and bring a touch of attitude to any summer look. Check out the models sporting them in grey and black styles:

Photo Credits: Style.com

In case you can’t afford the real thing…or you want the dress and the shoes here are some great alternatives (all ship to Canada of course!)

Here’s a similar style (BCBG) at bluefly.com at 40% off:

And if you still would like some cash left over for your next sushi lunch with friends check out these options:

               Suede pump by Forever 21  $                  Colette heel by Martin & Osa $$

Now go ahead and strutt your stuff like you walked straight off the runway.

Thanks to twitter and our friends at styleblog.ca  we now have confirmed that Top Shop now offers shipping to Canadian customers. It seems like it was only last week that I was coveting TS outfits only to be dissapointed from an email response explaining that Top Shop was still in the process of making this dream a reality.  Well, looks like our dreams have come true!

And if you aren’t yet convinced…..

Don’t forget, Top Shop is home to an exclusive line by Kate Moss. Get it while you can!

Black and white is here for spring 2010 and brings us girly suits, flowy dresses and dutch inspired shoes. Not only is black and white easy to wear and accessorize, the pieces make it easier to transition your wardrobe from season to season.

Check out Chanel’s take on Black and White for Spring 2010:

I love the fantasies that Karl Lagerfield evokes with his collections and this Spring 2010 is no exception. For those of us who don’t have the platinum card to afford his pieces, you can find great black and white items at white house black market (they ship to Canada!)

Here’s some of my favourite alternatives to the Chanel dresses from WHBM:

One thing I love about black and white is you can make it your own with colourful accessories or go for a classic look with layered pearls and chains in muted colours. If your going out at night try a pair of brightly coloured heels to really make a splash!

I know I’m not the only one who wants to blow off some steam on a Sunday and enjoy a stress-free day (I bet your Mom is thinking the same thing, and if you are a Mom you know what I mean!).

May I suggest a favorite stress reliever: a mini-online shopping spree and a tall glass of something cheery to lift your spirits. This can all be accomplished stress and guilt free when you know where to shop and how to shop (with a little help from yours truly) without breaking the bank.

What could make this time better than a juicy alcohol free cocktail to satisfy your tastebuds while you browse the open stores (they never close!) and find amazing deals. And this can all be done without breaking a sweat.

I recommend  my most favourite alcohol-free drink that was passed on to me by a bartender in Montego Bay, Jamaica. I could not get  enough of them and vowed to make share their yumminess with friends when I returned home. So now, I’m passing it off to you.

All you need is:

  • Orange Juice – 1/4 glass
  • Pinneaple Juice – 1/4 glass
  • OR a citrus juice blend will do just fine
  • Grenadine – about half a teaspoon or to taste
  • Sprite or Gingerale (I prefer Gingerale) – 1/2 glass
  • Garnish to make yourself feel special

If you really want to impress yourself what I do is place the juice in first, then the gingerale and then the shot of grenadine on top. What this does is allow the grenadine to sink to the bottom and the leave the orange and red colours separated.

So sit back, relax on this Mother’s Day with a refreshing mocktail and surf the web for great deals. I guarantee you’ll find them and have a stress free day!

Martin & Osa, the luxury brand brought to us by the creators of American Eagle Outfitters has announced they will be leaving us. Only a few years into their entry to the competitive upperclass market, joining the likes of Banana Republic and Club Monaco, Martin & Osa is waving goodbye to their loyal customers.

Bringing us clothes that were effortlessly chic the brand will be missed by the stylish working girl. The brand never made it up North, but they did offer shipping to Canadians at a minimal charge. I visited two locations during the pairs’ reign, the Mall of America store in Minneapolis and the outdoor mall location in Las Vegas. I enjoyed my visits to both.

Until Martin & Osa bid us adieu they will be selling off their last line in stores and online at an additional 30% off. So get it while you can, and maybe you’ll grab a steal of a deal and also a piece of style history. When someone asks where you got your cute top you can say you snagged a few pieces of the last line ever produced of the brand, so to them better luck next time.

The official sail date of the M & S ship is yet to be announced but I imagine it won’t be too long now. The company often sells of merchandise to one-off retailers such as Winners, and no doubt they’ll find some arrangements in the US to re-coup some costs of production, rather than selling off the clothes at basement prices.

If your interested, take a peek and maybe you’ll be holding a piece never to be replicated again (unless by a copy-cat designer). Prices are reasonable and they offer both mens and womens clothing, including some fabulous shoes.

~Chelsea

It’s time for sharing my latest shopping treasure. Shop now or forever stare at your lonely closet.

I love featuring shoes because no matter what happens, you can always cheer yourself up with a great pair of dressy heels that may be over-doing it a tad, but who really cares if it puts a smile on our face?

I recently spotted this picture of Amanda Seyfried, dubbed Hollywood’s it girl of the moment, sporting a popular trend these days: the strappy ankle sandal. This shoe is so versitile it can be worn from season to season, either giving a dose of attitude to your girly summer dress or spicing up your regular work uniform.

Here’s a well made pair on sale at Brown’s Shoes, their own brand B2 and are available in sizes 5-9, 11 last I checked. They’re on sale for $69.98 from $148.00.

I have shopped Browns online many times and can assure you that they do their best to make it a very pleasurable experience (thats what shoe shopping should be right?!) Their sizing is true to any other well made shoe brand so don’t think you’ll have to order a size up or down from your usual size. However, if your looking to play it safe you could probably get away with a half size too large since the straps will hold your feet in safely!

Get them while you can! And let me know how the shopping goes as always,

~Chelsea

The first Shopping Supplement online store review! How exciting! Here’s the low down:
  • The Shopping Supplement shops an online store (one that ships to Canadian customers)
  • After looking around, SS buys an item and eagerly anticipates its arrival. After its all said and done, the store is reviewed based on a number of criteria (see About Us for more detail).
  • The review is posted here and you decide whether its worth your time or not, hopefully discovering a new shopping destination that ships to your stylin’ neck of the woods!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Quiksilver.com, devoted to the Quiksilver brand, not only carries gear for surf, skate, snow and wakeboarders, they also have a well established clothing line that doesn’t skimp on nutritional value (as calculated below).
Surprisingly, Quiksilver offers a wide variety of casual clothing that screams, “I’m cool, sexy and earthy.” Not a bad combination if you ask me. The clothes are effortless and easy to incorporate into any wardrobe. Their unique style is applauded by some notable retailers such as Aritzia and American Rag who carry the Quiksilver line at select locations. There’s always some great steals to be found in the sale section and, if your interested, a selection of eco-friendly items.
Although I found the navigation a bit intimidating at first I love that they have incorporated customer reviews into the listings. Products are reviewed based on true fit, comfort, style, length and bottom line recommendation. I found this very helpful when looking to buy a dress shirt and was comforted when someone had posted that the sizing and fit were accurately described. (I ended up buying the shirt and love it!)
The only downsides are lack of sizing available (24-31 waist) and free shipping is only valid for US orders. That said, their CAD shipping prices are reasonably priced (although not specifically stated it costs around $10 per order) and ships quickly as they use Purolator.
Here’s the final nutritional value calc:
Ever wonder why A-list celebrities have access to designer clothes perfectly tailored to fit their every curve and styled to bring out their best assets (and usually at no cost)?  Didn’t think so.
Everyone knows that if you’re a well known celebrity about to make waves at a well publicized event,  thats what fame gets you. A nice job perk if you ask me. If I had tried to negotiate for a “personal stylist, designer clothes and a tailor” when my contract was up for discussion I probably would have been shown the “custom fitted orthopedics” section (filed under podiatry) of the benefit booklet…and that would have been end of discussion. A perfectly styled wardrobe isn’t exactly perceived as a tangible benefit to company productivity… even though I’d like to argue that it is.
Once again I’ve found a way to supplement this lavish benefit for something more accessible yet still quite indulgent. A new wave of customizable clothing has reached the market in the past decade due to an increase in demand for products that reflect our own sense of style and uniqueness. Retail giants all across the board from Apple electronics to Ikea home furnishings to Nike runners have caught on to this trend and offer numerous customizable options online. The rich and famous are  no longer the only ones who can demand a red plaid high-top sneaker with the name of their alter ego embellished on the side a la ‘Miley Cyrus (though are we really taking any style inspiration from her?).
The point is: We can join the ranks of the rich and famous and have personally tailored clothing designed by person who knows your sense of style best: YOU.
Recently I discovered some fabulous “designed by you” sites:
Shoes of Prey: You choose the heel, toe, fabric, colour & embellishments. Expert craftsmen then make your shoes to measure, swaddle them in a soft dust bag and crisp new box, and ship them to your
waiting feet. They guarantee you’ll love your shoes or you’ll get your money back.
Coco Myles: An impressive collection of customizable dresses, including celebrity-inspired fashions from sizes 0-32 in every style.
Zazzle: Allows you to create the highest quality footwear with your photos, designs, text and more, ensuring a pair of shoes unique as you. Choose from 7 different Keds shoe styles for men, women and kids.
MakeYourOwnJeans.com: There’s a wide choice of styles, whether you prefer a classic fit, a slimmer boot cut  or anything in-between. They also offer a wide variety of fabrics: Heavy-weight, Medium-weight or the popular new Cross-hatch Denim,corduroys and twills; all in a choice of colours.
Ravis Taylor.com: Offering bespoke custom, made to measure, customized off the rack and favourite clothing replication services. Although not an extremely attractive site, if your looking for professional services for designing your custom workwear item this may be your best bet, especially if you have a hard time finding dress clothes that fit.
What are you waiting for? Unleash your inner designer and let the creativity flow because nothing compares with the feeling of owning a custom designed, one of a kind piece.
PS: All sites ship to Canada as always
